"… straddles YA and adult literary fiction in the same way as Tim Winton's Breath … Layla's is a unique voice. A beautifully told story.” — Cameron Raynes

About Me

Kirsten KrauthHowdy! I have worked in and around words for 20 years, as a writer and editor. I live in Castlemaine, regional Victoria, nestled into the ever-broadening expanse of writers moving to the region.

My novel just_a_girl was published by UWA Publishing in 2013 to critical and popular acclaim. While it was written as literary fiction for adults, YA readers have loved it too… You can hear me talking about it on Radio National’s Life Matters and Books and Arts Daily, with Natasha Mitchell and Michael Cathcart.

I was honoured to be one of the judges for the 2013 Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Australian Novelists Award.

At Wild Colonial Girl I blog on my passions (books, writing, authors, film & tv, local artists, family life) although I’m taking a little break right now.

I am a regular contributor to ABC Arts Online where I cover regional arts. I have written personal essays, and film and literary criticism, for Good Weekend, Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Peppermint Magazine, Metro Magazine, Empire, Screen Education, Island Magazine and RealTime.

I am Commissioning Editor of Australian Author and Newswrite literary magazines, and have edited a compilation of best-of articles from Newswrite in an ebook, Talking Writing.
